Project Overview

The project provided high-pressure hydrogen valve selection and technical consulting for a hydrogen refueling station in East China, covering high-pressure ball valves, globe valves and check valves in the 35 MPa/70 MPa refueling process.

Challenge

Hydrogen molecules are very small, permeate easily and may cause hydrogen embrittlement in metals. Fast, frequent filling at refueling stations places high demands on valve sealing and service life. The client lacked experience with applicable standards, material compatibility and leakage classes, and needed selection rationale covering standard compliance, sealing materials and design types, while avoiding over-specification that would raise costs.

Our Solution

Valve technical requirements were organized with reference to ISO 19880 and the relevant national standards, and selection was graded by pressure class and flow direction: hydrogen storage and dispenser lines use metal-seated high-pressure ball valves (stainless steel bodies, hardened sealing faces) and high-pressure globe valves, while vent and return lines use high-pressure check valves. Sealing materials and lubricants were screened for hydrogen compatibility, and leakage classes and test methods were specified.

Results

A selection scheme and valve technical specification were delivered, which the client used to prepare tender technical clauses, avoiding cost waste from over-specifying high-grade valves. After tendering, high-pressure hydrogen valves were purchased per the scheme, and Vexval continues to provide supply support as the technical contact.
